CKat Monthly: A simple way to worry less about the future

#4: No regrets starts now

4-minute read

Reader,

Do you ever catch yourself worrying about the future?

About how that thing coming up will go…
About whether you’ll wish you had done something differently once you get there?

I know I have.

We all want the same thing when we look ahead:

To arrive at the moment and feel content, satisfied, at peace.
No regrets.

Think about a wedding night.

So much preparation for one moment.
Time. Money. Expectations. Pressure to make it “perfect.”

Or maybe it’s a game coming up (like the Super Bowl).
A presentation.
A hard conversation.
A regular Monday where you just want to end the day feeling good about how you showed up.

Whatever the future thing is, of course you want it to go well.

But when we don’t know how it will turn out, our minds tend to fill that unknown space with worst-case scenarios. It’s a form of protection. Totally human.

The problem?
Living there pulls us out of the presentand robs us of peace now.

Here’s a different way to approach it.

Instead of worrying about how it might go, imagine this:

You’ve arrived at that future moment.
And you have
zero regrets.

You’re content. Fulfilled. At peace with how it went.

Now ask yourself one simple question:

What will have happened for me to feel this way?

Not what went perfectly
but how
you showed up.

What were you focused on?
Where did you put your energy?
What mattered… and what didn’t?

Work backwards.

Just before the moment—what were you doing?
Months before—how were you preparing?
And then bring it all the way back to
today.

What’s one thing you can do now that aligns with that version of you—the one with no regrets?

When you answer that question honestly, something shifts.
You’re no longer stuck in future worry.
You have a
process.
And with that comes peace.

My wedding-night example

Before our wedding, I asked myself that question:
What will have happened for me to feel totally content with how this night went?

The answer surprised me with how simple it was.

I knew I’d have no regrets if I:

  • Was fully present with my bride
  • Didn’t rush
  • Didn’t let drama or other opinions take my energy
  • Took time to step away together and actually soak it all in—the people, the music, the moment

That clarity changed everything.

It gave me peace heading into the weekend.
I knew exactly where my energy needed to go—and where it didn’t.

And because of that, it truly was a night with no regrets.

All we ever have is now.

When we live in the past or the future, we can’t be present.
The past is over.
The future isn’t promised.

All we ever have is now.

So whatever you’re worried about right now—try this.
Work backwards from a moment of no regrets.
Then notice what happens to your energy.

Is it pulled into the future…
or does it settle into the present?
